Mischa Loppies Interview
Mischa Loppies is a young talented artist from the Netherlands, known as Aicatch or Msch.
While he was playing with fresh colors and shapes doing his light effects, we had a chance to have a nice little chat with him.
1. Welcome to WallpaperArt and please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the field?
Hey what’s up, my name is Mischa Loppies, I’m a graphic designer from The Netherlands. How I got started in the field, at a young age, I already had a certain interest in art & design so it wasn’t that big of a surprise I ended up in the creative field.
2. Who and (or) what made you want to become a graphic designer?
When I first saw the work of pro’s like Peter Jaworowski and Pawel Nolbert, it really motivated me to start doing my own work. But the one who encouraged me to start and do bigger pieces ( I only did signatures and small pieces back then) was Luuk Vermeyden, now a pretty well known artist. We ended up being really good friends, he’s even doing his intern at the same design company where I work.
3. You’re still going to school. But you have already worked with MediaMonks, a dutch design studio. Can you tell us something about your first experience in the real graphic design world?
Yes I’m still going to school. I’m doing my final assignment which will take about 10 weeks, when I’m done I’m going to work for MediaMonks for the rest of the year and start a new school next season. Well actually MediaMonks is an all round multimedia company located in Hilversum. I was really impressed by the talent and skill they have at the design department and the age of most designers there is just over 20. Everyone is really supportive and helpful, if you don’t know exactly how to create something in photoshop or something there’s always someone who can show you. I worked on a couple projects for brands like Sony and Samsung which is really cool.
4. We saw a lot of great wallpapers in your portfolio. How important is it for you to make a wallpaper these days?
It’s really important to me because I don’t wanna do only client work, personal projects often have much more meaning because you express your own thoughts and feelings in your pieces. And now when I’m done with a piece I usually convert it in to wallpaper sizes so I’m not the only one who can enjoy it.
5. You’ve made this beautiful wallpaper “Le Musique” for our readers, can you tell us something more about it.
Le Musique was actually meant for phase02 also owned by Into1 which is mostly about music so I decided that that should be the theme of the wallpaper. I searched stock sites for the perfect photo and I found this pretty girl with headphones on, when I saw it, I already knew it was perfect for the piece! I wanted to give the music a more visible vibe , so I started drawing light rays and out of the headphones it still felt a little empty so I decided to draw in some birds and butterflies to make it more alive. The drawing was really hard because I used my mouse for this one , when I started at MediaMonks they taught me how to use a wacom tablet and after six months I really was used to it. However I didn’t own one so I always borrowed it from MediaMonks but because I had to go back to school for my final assignment, I couldn’t borrow it because then a new intern wouldn’t have a wacom.
Don’t worry you’ve done an amazing job on those rays.
6. Thanks a lot for the sweet wallpaper you made. Is there anything you want to share with the readers, tips, love?
Your welcome man, yeah actually there is! This piece is mostly about light effects, although I already did light effects before I came to MediaMonks there is someone who deserves some credit his name is Kjegwan Leihitu (imaginarysenses.com) a good friend of mine who also works at MediaMonks he taught me some new tricks. Also shout out to Luuk Vermeyden (jaxestudios.com) , Joey Schmidt (djo-e.com) , Julian Burford (julianburford.nl) Rik Oostenbroek (secretshowcase.com) and Jurryt Visser (jurgt.nl). Oh and of course a BIG thank you to everyone who supports my work!
