Saad Moosajee Interview
This week we had a chance to finish an interview with 15 year-old self-taught illustrator, Saad Moosaje . Let’s have a chat about how a young artist like him combines school with client work. Sit back and enjoy the interview..
1. Welcome to WallpaperArt and please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the field?
I’m Saad Moosajee, a 15 year old self taught illustrator based out of Colorado in the United States. I pretty much stumbled into the field on accident, one day I messed around with Adobe Photoshop and created something which I decided to post. I got criticism on it and improved it, this was two and a half year ago and I’m still going to this day.
2. Your still so young, 15 years old and already working with The Kdu and had few exhibitions already! How do you combine everything with school?
At the moment fairly ineffectively. I go to public school with accelerated courses, so I still get a fair bit of work, but sometimes it’s very hard to choose whether I want to work on a client job or do what I should be doing, schoolwork. In general I will take schoolwork over client work and make up for it on weekends, but as said I haven’t found a good balance yet.
3. Your also an head creative director of the art group Slashthree and worked on the expressions book for SlashTHREE. Can you tell us something more about this project and your job at SlashTHREE?
My job is to supervise the entire art department, which consists mainly of our monthly exhibitions in addition to side projects like the expressions book. The expressions project was my way of showing the world some of the art we produce. I curated the project while fellow Creative Director Bechira, Sorin designed it and it was released at our online store, slashthree.bigcartel.com. The book raised over 700 $ for our community.

4. This is great, it looks like you have done so many things already. What are your further goals as graphic designer/ director?
I’ve had my personal showcase saadart.com up for a year now and that’s how long I’ve been freelancing. So far I’ve done OK but my goal is to bring in a hefty sum, from freelancing alone over the next year. My goal as slashTHREE creative director is to further the aesthetic quality and originality of the art we produce in our exhibition, in addition to continuing outside projects and getting the slashTHREE name out there.

5. Can you tell us something more about your wallpaper, inferno?
The wallpaper is inferno, it’s a study of multiple concepts and symbolism about global warming and climate change in one piece. The overall theme of the piece was how climate change affects the poor, but I worked in multiple ideas. The main and biggest idea is the two views of the world each held by one hand of man kind, the sub concepts are found with the SUV & poor woman, in addition to the entire atmosphere of the piece and the title, ‘inferno’ .
This sounds promising, we wish you good luck with your freelance career and best of luck with SlashTHREE ! Thanks for your time, it was a pleasure to talk with you! Do you want to share anything with our readers?
Thanks, it was a pleasure. For the people who are interested in our online exhibitions, check it out here.
