Skam Interview

Maksimilijan Gečević is a Croatian artist also know as Skam. He’s a member of Slashthree Art group and is a truly master in photo manipulation. In the following interview he will explain you how he got in to it and how he learned it! He also made this wonderful wallpaper for you, free to download in this post ! Enjoy !

1. Welcome to WallpaperArt and please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the field?
Hi! Glad to be here! My name is Maksimilijan Gečević, I’m 26 and from Croatia. Well I started with digital artworks almost 7 years ago,
and before that I was doing mostly traditional art. Then I found out about DeviantArt and similar sites and I got more interested in Digital art in general and since then I’m trying to improve my skills .

2. Have you followed any graphic design education?
Well sort of… I was doing art since I was a kid, so i always knew what I want to do in the future, and I was looking for places where they can give me some guidelines and essentials of the field. At the moment I’m finishing aculty of Graphic arts, but there we learn mostly about technical stuff, and there is not enough praxis like it should be, so i think I learned a lot more on my own and from other designers than in schools. Experience is the best education !

Dreaming

3. So you basically mastered the technique of Photo Manipulation on your own, how did you mastered it and do you have any advice to the designers who are just starting this technique?
Haha… well I wouldn’t say I mastered it, but I think I improved. Before, I was actually more interested in digital painting but after I started doing graphic design I realized I constantly work with photos, like for CD covers, posters etc.. So I decided to get more into it, and I liked it.
But I feel there is a lot more I need to learn… Not just “how to” do it, but also in what way, if you understand what I’m saying.
My advice for young designers is keep working, there is nothing that can’t be done, and most important thing is practice, like in every other job! And learn how to accept critique and advices, cause that’s what makes you better!

Shelter

4. To date what would you say is your favourite Photo manipulation that you have created, and why?
Like someone already said, the best one is the last one from the oven : -) But in my case I would say “3″, not because its technically the best, but because it’s very personal and intimately piece. That makes the connection with the piece more stronger…

5. In terms of your designing careers where would you like to be in 5 years? Will you start an online portfolio and step in the business or is there something else you do besides the digital art world?
Yeah, my plan is to start a business in the graphic design and digital art world, cause that’s something I always dreamed of doing. That’s why I’m trying to make as much as I can now as a freelancer so I can improve for later on.
I’m also interested in video and movies, so every now and then I go trough some tutorials and try to get into it… So we’ll see where this is leading at.

Balance_imac

6. Now about your wallpaper “Balance”, can you tell us something more about it?
Well, I wanted to do something different than other pieces, and the other day it was really hot so I went for a glass of water, and while I was sipping it, I watched how the ice cubes jumped around, like they are trying to keep the balance… So I said “OK”, I will do something like that! YES it was only water! Haha! Basically I just wanted to do something for relaxing, without big concept or something, and it was really fun! I’m glad you like it !

7. We would like to thank you for your time and your crazy “Balance” wallpaper! Is there anything you would like to share with our readers?
Thank you for the interview, I hope I will create more and better stuff for you very soon!
To the readers, hope you like the wallpaper, find your resolution, don’t stretch it ; -) !
