1. Welcome to WallpaperArt and please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the graphic design scene?
Hello. My name is Igor Šćekić. I am 24 years old student of Graphic Design University from Zagreb,Croatia. I started playing with Photoshop at the end of high school, it was a bit more than five years ago. I started making wallpapers with sexy girls for my friends. After that I got into graphic design university, discovered more software than just Photoshop and the fun has started.

2. Who, and or what made you want to become a graphic designer?
Well, I was always interested in art. In high school all that I’ve cared about was graffiti, so I had no idea what I’d like to do in life. Then I discovered Photoshop and it was love at first sight. With graphic design I found a way to make money with making something creative. I realised it is all I want to do for living. I can’t imagine myself as some economist, doctor, lawyer or whatever. Only as graphic designer or artist, so I don’t have so much choice.

3. You told us you’re a student in Graphic Design University in Zagreb. Does it help you grow as a graphic designer?
At the university I haven’t learned so much about software, more just some theoretical stuff about design and printing and a bit of drawing. Almost everything that I know about different graphic programs I learned by myself from tutorials and experimenting.

Agree on that one. Most of the stuff you just need to find out yourself.

4. Your very active in Art groups such as SlashTHREE and evokeONE. How important is it for you and does it help you improve your skill? What are your thoughts about art groups like that?
It is good to be part of some Art group. I’ve meet a lot of great artists there, found some new friends in digital art field…But thing that I like the most about Art groups is constructive criticism. In process of making art pack people post their works on art group forum so that people can comment on each others works. That is great thing because it helps you to improve your skills much faster when others give you their opinion on your work. Other thing that I like there is, competition. You just need to be good or you won’t be recognised in digital art world, because there is a lot average artists. So it push me to try harder, to be better or I’ll get lost in the crowd.

Yeah, constructive criticism and competition definitely keeps you motivated and helps you growing as an artist.

5. Now about your wallpaper “Space Fishing”, can you tell us something more about it?
When I first started making this it was supposed to be something else, to be more precise something like 3D stars pattern in space. But after few days of work I got this idea of catching fishes in space, but it shouldn’t be usual fishing with wishing rod and stuff, more something like science fiction fishing with magical powers, so this turned out as a result. I used different programs: Photoshop, Illustrator and Poser. As always everything is composed together with Photoshop.

Very nice execution! Love the idea! This is not a perfect example of constructive criticism. But I keep that for our readers.

6. We’d like to thank you for the sweet wallpaper you made and the time you took to answer our questions. Is there anything you want to share with our readers, tips, love?
The most important thought that I’d like to share with young digital artists: “don’t be obsessed with becoming popular.This could burn you out and you can lose your personality and style.Just relax and do what you like and enjoy doing it, and believe me everything will come by itself.” When I got into digital art field I was obsessed with becoming popular, but then I discovered it is all more simple if you just focus on working and let things flow their way.
