Luuk Vermeyden, a young respected artist from the Netherlands also known as Jaxe, has made us an exclusive wallpaper. His beautiful retouching skills and creative mind truly worked their magic on this amazing composition. Get the know this wonderful artist and grab this gorgeous eye-candy for your desktop.

1. Welcome to WallpaperArt and please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the field?

Hey, thanks for the feature guys! My name is Luuk Vermeyden, born on 3rd of February in Rotterdam. I’m doing all different kind of designs like logo’s, t-shirt designs, wallpapers, advertising and web design. I’ve been working with Adobe Photoshop for 8 years now and its a big part of my life.

2. Who, and or what made you want to become a graphic designer?

It started all in the winter of 2001, I was in a gaming-clan, there was a guy who made signatures for everybody. I really would like to have one too, but I wanted to make one myself. So he suggested me to get Photoshop, which my dad had on his computer (adobe photoshop 5.0). I started to try every tool, just trying out different things, after a few months he told me there were “Tutorials” which I didn’t even knew the first 3 months. The tutorials back in the days were not that exclusive as they are now, they just learned you the basics, how the tools work and what they can do. After doing a few tutorials for 3 months I realized I didn’t wanted to keep reading every tutorial.. I wanted to make art, on my own way.

3. You went on internship at Ara and Mediamonks, how did they change you as artist and can you tell the people what you did on internship.

Haha, good notice, they learned me to be more professional, how to work in a company, I did my internships at big companies. I was a Link in the chain of production, there are a lot of different professions in the marketing world, art-directors, accountants, marketing strategists, I worked with all of them. Now at MediaMonks I am with a lot of young designers, motion designers and it’s really interesting how everybody does his own thing, but working on the same project.

These 2 companies make great work, and i really liked to do my internship there.
You can check out their websites www.ara.nl and www.mediamonks.com

4. Your finishing your last year in the master-class of the lyceum Rotterdam, what are your plans after finishing school. Where do you see yourself  in 5 – 10 years?

That’s a though question, my mind says.. Go to school you’re still young! but I also would like to work. Maybe I am going to try to combine these two things.

I would like to go to the Willem the Koning Art Academy in Rotterdam, it’s really close to my place and it seems to be really good, I would like to learn more about concept and advertisement.

5. We saw a lot of great wallpapers in your portfolio, how important is it for you to make a wallpaper now and then?

I always like to please my audience, creating wallpapers that can stay on your background for a long time, I’m not happy when I have work that is half done, that’s why I don’t upload that much on DeviantArt. (other reason is that I’m busy with school and internship) but beside that I just love to see people being happy when they see my work.

6. You’ve made this beautiful wallpaper “Golden Ratio” for our readers, can you tell us something more about it.

I just wanted to create something new, more of a photo retouch work.

While I was making this one, I just felt the placing was just so right, I was so busy working on the lightning and simply creating this, suddenly my eye felt on this art history book I had next to my desk, so I opened it and I came on the page of “Golden ratio/ Golden section” it is about the perfect composition.. And that really got me, so I went to Wikipedia and searched for it. Then I found this “template” of the golden ratio and put it above my wallpaper, then I saw that everything was aligned perfectly.

You can see this on my behance profile: Golden Ratio + Case Study
